Fadnavis says govt is committed to Maratha quota and working to not fall in court

MUMBAI: On Tuesday, the CM told that his government is committed to the issue and did not want to rush into this which would fall in the court.
Chandrakant Patil, head of the cabinet sub committee on Maratha reservation, made it clear to form district level committees of 10 Maratha Kranti Morcha members to monitor the implementation of the benefits announced by the government for the community.
Under the Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation loans are to be given to the Maratha youth. The government also confirmed that they would stand by this. Complaint came by the community that more than 10,000 applications are pending for the approval with banks.
“It is very easy for us to issue an ordinance, it can be done in one day but it will not stay in court. That will be cheating the community which we do not want to do. We will give reservation which is legally sound,” said Fadnavis.
He added that, “There was anger and resentment among people, which had resulted in young people ending their lives. This will not give you reservations.”
Police had filed an FIR in Monday’s violence during the disturbance in Chakan in Pune. The damage to public property was estimated to be in between Rs 8 crore to Rs 10 crore. Around 4,000 to 5,000 unknown persons were mentioned as offenders.
Violence reports are also filed in Hadapsar in Pune. Sources tell that a mob had attacked a policeman around 1:45 pm on Monday for video recording the act.
“The state government was responsible for the violence as it had ignored the Maratha community’s demands, which led to unrest among rural youths. The government takes cognizance only after agitations intensify and people fill streets,” said Raju Shetti, chief of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna.
