“United we stand, divided we fall” said justice Raghvendra S Chauhan during his farewell

BENGALURU: On Friday the justice Raghvendra S Chauhan, a senior judge of the Karnataka high court, had warned that the judiciary cannot stand as a divided house on the basis of caste, creed and regional differences.

“I am beginning to see cracks in our edifice; cracks caused by divisions on the basis of caste, creed and regions. Unfortunately, we are yet to develop a class consciousness that we are all lawyers and judges with a common goal of ensuring justice to our people.We belong to a legal fraternity, which cannot be divided on casteist, religious and regional lines,” said Justice Chauhan during his farewell address.

The judge, has been transferred to the high court of judicature for the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, had recalled the motto of the Three Musketeers — “One for all, all for one.”

“We may speak different languages, but legal language and logic are the same throughout the country. After all, united we stand, divided we fall,” he added.

Justice Vineet Kothari, who has been transferred to the High court of Madras, said that judges are like computers and whatever has been fed comes out. He reminded that in this context, it is imperative for the advocates to be feeding the best legal proposition to get the best out of judges.

On Saturday two judges, who have been transferred to the Karnataka high court, will be taking their oath. Justice PB Bajantri returns to Karnataka after serving for more than three years in the states of Punjab and Haryana HC, while the Justice Alok Aradhe has been transferred from Jammu and Kashmir high court.
