SCR staffs erect poles on pvt lands, later remove them

Nellore: The erection of railway poles on private lands sent the owners of the lands into a tizzy at Sullurpet in the district on Saturday. The officials of the South Central Railways have started identifying lands belonging to the railways on the route from Chennai to Vijayawada. In this process, the senior section engineers identified a piece of land near the 83rd milestone at Sullurpet and setup some poles indicating that it was railway land. On coming to know of this, 25 families who own those lands were alarmed and rushed to meet the railway officials. On verifying the official records, it became clear that the engineers were at fault. Speaking to the media here on Saturday, the SCR Permanent Way Senior Engineer Murari Kumar agreed that the officials of the railways were at fault. He assured the owners of the lands that the Railway department would not encroach on their lands. The poles on the lands were removed on Saturday by the railway staff. Later, speaking to The Hans India, some of the families on which such poles were erected said that they were shocked and deeply distressed to see railway poles on their lands, which they purchased with their hard earned money.
