TDP eyes votes of Seemandhra settlers to win 5 seats in Telangana

In 2009 general elections, Telugu Desam Party has won only 2 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana region. Nevertheless, it won as many as 4 seats in Seemandhra region for Lok Sabha. After the state bifurcation, now, there are two states where TDP has to contest and ascertain their power. The main focus will be winning most number of Lok Sabha seats to have an impact in the national politics.

Telugu Desam Party has a strong hold in Seemandhra region to claim more number of seats for Lok Sabha. The same has been evident with exit poll surveys too. Nevertheless, most of Telangana people consider TDP more as a Seemandhra party considering that it has palpably taken Seemandhra side during state bifurcation episode. So, the possibility of winning more number of seats may not be very easy.

TDP is confident of winning the previously won two constituencies this time also, as both the MPs have a strong grip on the local politics in their respective constituencies. In view of this, now, TDP has been reportedly focusing on only those areas where Seemandhra people have been settled dominantly. Three most acclaimed areas of Seemandhra settlers – Malkajgiri, Mahabubabad and Chevella - are the chosen areas where TDP want to win the seats, by hook or crook.

Nevertheless, the entire process may not be very easy as other parties may have similar plan. If such a fixation happens, the result will be mere splitting-up of votes of Seemandhra settlers between the parties to give a clear win to some Telangana candidate, irrespective of the party he/she belongs to.

Now, the question that arises in everybody’s mind is whether Naidu’s strategy will work out or not.
