Media House Surviving on Paid News? Paid news is a phenomenon in India which is becoming rampant with each passing day.

Paid news is a phenomenon in India which is becoming rampant with each passing day. People are left wondering whether media houses are surviving only on paid news. It was found in the recent past that even the main stream media has been publishing favourable articles in exchange for money.

Reports also emanated that Indian media, The Press Council of India tried to bury its own investigative reports on phenomenon of paid news. Even the Election Commission has detected that politicians have paid lakhs to media houses to glorify their candidature and carry favourable reports in print and electronic media. More than 1400 paid news were reported in 4 years during assembly polls held in 17 states. 700 paid news were identified in the recent general elections.
Rise of paid news has buried the essence of democracy and people have started losing faith on media and its impartial reporting. Efforts to curb paid news has not yielded any results. Even in the UK, the debate continues as media has opposed any regulations on paid news by its Parliament. Only ethics in reporting can solve the paid news menace.
