The efforts made by TRS supremo K Chandrashekar Rao to nip dissension in the bud does not seem to have succeeded fully. Dissension among GHMC leaders continues to simmer as they feel that the party leadership has been giving greater importance to the lateral entrants while ignoring the flag-bearers.

Even the efforts to constitute a jumbo committee consisting of 57 members for the GHMC elections headed by Mynampalli Hanumantha Rao did not seem to have succeeded in pacifying the city cadre and second-rung leaders. This has made some senior party leaders to jump into action and explain to them to have patience and assured them that their services would be recognised. They have been advised to actively participate in the membership drive and ensure that the party emerges victorious in the GHMC elections.

It may be recalled that KCR had set a target of enrolling 25,000 members in each constituency. The city leaders were reminded that KCR at the recent extended meeting of party plenary had assured them that there was no dearth of posts and their services would be duly recognised soon and that they should work hard for GHMC and Warangal municipal corporation elections.

The party president made a well-calculated move by announcing the party’s priority in terms of various programmes and the timeline for implementing the programmes. A shrewd politician that he is, KCR rightly sensed growing dissension in the party as nominated posts have not been filled up so far. Even women leaders are unhappy that they are not getting their due share either in government or in nominated posts. They openly expressed their feelings before the start of the party plenary at Kompally on Hyderabad outskirts.

Though soon after the plenary it was felt that by scrapping all committees and setting a 20-day deadline to achieve the target of enrolling 25,000 members in each constituency, KCR was able to contain dissent in the party and that it would keep all aspirants on toes till April, party workers do not appear to be fully convinced.

However, the silver lining is that despite bickering within the party, neither the TDP nor the Congress is in a position to cash in on the situation and hence the TRS continues to be in safe zone.
