Kamareddy: Beedi workers took out a protest rally from Nizamsagar Crossroads to the Collectorate and later staged a dharna, on Thursday,demanding payment of their wages, instead of depositing in banks.
Addressing the protestors,M Narender, State Beedi Workers’ Union leaders sought to justify the demand contending that many beedi workers were illiterates and did not have bank accounts and cannot operate ATMs.
The leaders told The Hans India that the beedi workers were facing severe hardships following the scrapping of the high-denomination currency notes. They also stated that it would be convenient if the wages were handed over to to the beedi workers.
