The Collector was the chief guest at the programme organised at Ambedkar Bhavan in the town to mark the 187th birth anniversary of Jyothirao Phule. `` He strove for the welfare of people belonging to socially and economically backward sections. Throughout his life, he worked hard for the eradication of untouchability,'' she said.

Ms Chongthu said `` Jyothirao Phule recognized the importance of providing education to people, and he educated his wife and she, in turn, became the first woman teacher in the country. He was a great social reformer and encouraged widow marriages.''

A committee would be formed to identify suitable place for the installation of a statue of Jyothirao Phule in Nizamabad town, she said and asked the people to follow the principles of the great social activist and work for the welfare of the downtrodden. The Collector added that educated unemployed youth in the district would be provided training and the cost for the scheme was estimated at Rs 50 lakhs. Proposals for the training were sent to higher officials in this regard.

BJP MLA Yendala Lakshminarayana recalled the services of the social reformer and social activist to the people of downtrodden. Dr Ambedkar also lauded the efforts of Jyothirao Phule, the MLA said.

MP Madhu Yashki has said that Jyothirao Phule was born in a poor family and tried his best to provide education to various sections of people, especially to weaker section people. The MP announced that he would allocate Rs 30 lakhs from MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds for establishing a Study Circle to BC students in the town.

The Collector gave away rewards of Rs 10,000 to each inter-caste married couples .A Joint Collector Harshavardhan, RDO Hanmanth Reddy, BC Welfare Executive Director Satyanarayana and other officials were present.

Karimnagar: The 187th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyothirao Phule was celebrated on a grand scale in the town on Thursday. A Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar, MLC Santosh Kumar, TDP MLA Gangula Kamalakar, District Collector Smita Sabharwal and SP Ravinder paid floral tributes to Phule statue at the Bypass Road near the town.

Mr. Ponnam said that water purification equipment at a cost of Rs 70 lakhs were provided at Government Hostels in the district. A Proposals for the installation of solar power units at hostels at a cost of Rs 1.70 cr were sent for approval from the Government, he said.

The elected representatives and the officials recalled the services of the social reformer in the field of education and lauded his efforts to achieve equal rights for peasants and people belonging to weaker sections. A Leaders of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes took part in the celebrations.

Adilabad: MP Ramesh Rathode (of TDP) garlanded the portrait of Jyothirao Phule and paid tributes to him at Kagaznagar in Adilabad district on Thursday on the occasion of Phule's 187th birth anniversary.

On the occasion, MLA Kaveti Sammaiah also garlanded the portrait of Jyothirao Phule and paid tributes to him. Local leaders Kishen Rao, Sunil, Lakshminarayana, Venkatesam and others participated.
