sanitationNizamabad: District Collector Christina Z Chongthu here on Friday directed Municipal Officials to take effective measures to keep all wards in the town clean. As part of the week-long sanitation drive being undertaken in the town from June 14 to 21, she visited Saraswati Nagar, Pragathi Nagar and other areas. She inspected the drainage canals and garbage bins in the colony and interacted with the local people. Then, she directed the municipal officials to take proper steps to clear the garbage regularly. Speaking to the newsmen, the Collector said that with the arrival of monsoon, there was possibility of spread of seasonal diseases. As a preventive measure, the officials launched sanitation drive to clear the drains and spraying insecticides to prevent mosquito breeding, she added. "A total of 17 teams of sanitation workers were pressed into service and 7 trucks are being used to lift the garbage. The workers would clear the drainages and garbage bins in every ward. Steps are being taken to avoid water logging on the roads,'' she explained. Municipal Commissioner Mangatayaru, MEPMA Project Director Satyanarayana and other officials were present.
