Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi has managed to leverage a role for his ministry in the Cannes Film Festival, which is celebrating 100 years of Hindi Cinema.
A composite delegation of Tourism Ministry and I&B Ministry is participating in the Cannes Film Festival to showcase the heritage of Indian films and to promote India as a filming destination. Several destinations have gained in terms of tourist influx by being the venue/ location of popular domestic and International cinemas. Oscar Award-winning film, Life of Pi, was shot in Pudducherry and Munnar in Kerala. Tourism Ministry is promoting these destinations as Land of Pi. As a mega star himself, Chiranjeevi understands the importance and impact of cinema. The joint participation of Tourism Ministry and I&B Ministry is consequent to their entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote Indian Cinema as a sub-brand of Incredible India campaign of the Tourism Ministry at various international film festivals like IFFI Goa, European Film Market, Cannes Film Festival and markets abroad, to develop synergy between tourism and the film industry and to provide a platform for enabling partnerships between Indian and global film industry. It will promote India as the Incredible Filming Destination.
