marchHyderabad: As a part of the Women's March Celebrations, Moving Images is organising a week-long film festival titled 'Sense, Sensibility and Courage: The unforgettable women of Indian Cinema.' One can see some iconic films made by eminent filmmakers of the country spanning over different time periods. These movies are going to be based on women oriented subjects such as marginalisation, bigamy, arranged marriage, old age and subsequent loneliness, and even stree shakti. The films will be screened at multiple venues like the Prasads Preview Theatre, Annapoorna International School of Film and Media (AIFSM) and St Ann's College. The first film of the festival was 'Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda', directed by Shyam Benegal. The event was inaugurated by Neena Gupta and she in conversation with Padma Ramesh, spoke about the status of women in Indian cinema. "The status of women in Indian cinema is same as in society. They have treated us very badly. The percent of my age women has no role, as the percent of my age women don't have any work in society. They only have to take care of their husband, children. Even in films they give us such kind of roles only 'bache ko khana de do, dawayi khila do' etc. Even in society we women don't have anything to do, which is the fact," Neena said. Neena said that a woman's life is more difficult in the present day scenario. "Women have changed. Earlier she only use to cook food and take care of her husband and children but was more happy then today's women. But today they go out, they do work they are equal to men, but still they are not happy," she pointed out.
