Everyone is bound to face problems when they are into their first ever long term relationship but some misconceptions need to be cleared out to head into the future.

Here are some common mistakes that need to be avoided in the relationship at least in the early stages:

Relationship Comparison:

Avoid comparing your relationship with your friend’s relationship or your previous relationship as no two people are the same. Expecting the same as others’ relationship will just pull your relationship apart. Do not strive to be someone else and don’t push your partner to be someone they are not.

Forcing each other:

Every relationship needs to be worked on but forcing the other person into something which you want to be causes more unhappiness than you can imagine. Just love each other naturally – don’t go about calculations or analyzing your relationship.

Ditching your friends:

Very few can actually balance their friends and love with stability but just to spend most of the time with their loved ones, some constantly cancel on their friends. Once or twice it may be understandable but ignoring their prominence in your life from the time you enter a serious relationship, it is definitely wrong. Learn how to balance both as you are important to more than one person and it needs to be shown to all of them.

Avoiding the talk until necessary:

You need to be vocal about issues that bother you as pushing them further away for a later time will eventually lead to a bigger altercation. It’s best to understand what each other need and want else they might turn into issues that can tear your relationship apart.

Lack of Communication:

No one can think similarly and in a relationship, both might think in different directions but searching for common ground and communicating your thoughts will keep the connection intact. Lack of communication amongst the partners will turn into misunderstandings and cause resentment which keeps your partner to maintain distance from you.

Holding onto grudges:

If your partner unknowingly hurts you, don’t hold to them and keep punishing them forever. No one is perfect – forgive each other and love each other despite flaws, mistakes or misunderstandings as that will put you in a much happier place than resenting or holding onto grudges.
