Hyderabad: Former State footballer, B Vittal Rao, passed away here late Monday evening. He was 76. A prominent player during the days when football was on top of the popularity charts, Vittal Rao represented the top teams of the generation. A highly revered figure for his vast knowledge of the sport and his passion for it even after retirement remained high.
Vittal Rao was a regular in the State team in several nationals, he also represented Railways. He was in the middle of action in major tournaments like Durrand, Rovers, DCM and IFA Shield. On hearing the news of his demise, the office-bearers of the Shastri Soccer Club(SSC), Trimulgherry, held a condolence meeting to pay their homage.
Former India captain, Victor Amal Raj, DSDO Aleem Khan, SBH coach, E Shyam, RRDFOA President, P Rajendran, James Zacharias, SSC Secretary, S Tony and APFA representatives expressed their sympathies with the bereaved family.
