The Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) on Wednesday kept hold of Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu as the chief national coach till the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Sandhu was appointed as the coach for the first time in 1993 and has competently served for almost twenty years. During his span as the coach, the Indian boxers have made a landmark progress in the international arena that includes prestigious first Olympic and first World Championship medals for the nation.
A committee was formed which was headed by the IBF president, Abhishek Matoria to select the chief national coach. The committee, comprising I.D. Nanavati (IBF vice president) and Naraottam Singh Rawat (Ring Officials Commission chairman), unanimously agreed on Sandhu without any second thought. Hence, the candidature of Sandhu was agreed and approved by the committee and SAI.
