With the lifting up of the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold title in Macau on Sunday, P.V. Sindhu continued her journey of taking massive strides towards asserting herself as the rising star of Indian badminton. She won the final match with a thrashing win over Canada’s Michelle Li in the summit clash.
In meagerly 37 minutes to clinch her second Grand Prix Gold title after the recent Malaysia Open in May, Sindhu won the match 21-15 & 21-12. She was pitilessly dominant from start to finish in the uneven encounter against the seventh-seeded Canadian. She justified the title given by her fans, the little senstation of India and the Arjuna award conferred on her by India.
Sindhu appeared dominant and confidant throughout the match and surpassed her opponent in the continuous two sets. By this win, Sindhu grabbed an amount of $9,000 into her account.
She became India’s first women’s singles medalist at the World Championship with back-to-back wins against dominant Chinese rivals in the mega-event. After Prakash Padukone’s bronze medal win in 1983, no singles medal was won by any Indian at the World Championships.
