Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq fought a lone battle and top-scored with 52 as Pakistan batting crumbled against a four-man seam attack, led by Chris Woakes' 4-67.

Resuming at 57-4, Pakistan limped to 119-8 by lunch which was extended after rain suspended play for an hour. Misbah frustrated England by contributing 60 runs to a ninth-wicket stand with Wahab Riaz (39) before off-spinner Moeen Ali wrapped up the innings by dismissing both batsmen.

Earlier, England's fast bowlers exploited overcast conditions as Pakistan limped to 119/8 at lunch. Captain Misbah stood strong as wickets fell around him in an extended first session with Root grabbing three catches.
