A joke doing the rounds on social media circles after Indian athletes Dipa Karmakar and sindhu broke the jinx at the Rio Olympics goes thus...Modi will now change the campaign from save girl to saved by the girl child. With it also came heavy criticism for author Shobaa De who had reacted thus after India's initial dismal performance at Rio...

Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity.

The most fitting replies to De were from none other than Legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and Cricketer Virender Sehwag.

Post Sindhu's feat, Amitabh tweeted:

@SrBachchan
T 2352 - #PVSindhu .. aap "khaali haath" nahein, medal leke wapas aa rahein hain .. aur hum aapke saath 'selfie' nikalne chahate hain !!

@SrBachchan
T 2352 - #PVSindhu ...aapne 'bolne walon' ki bolti bund kar di .. karm bolta hai aur wo kabhi kabhi 'kalam' ko bhi hara deta hai ! BADHAI !!

On the other hand, Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag too didn't miss an opportunity to mock De soon as India earned a medal at Rio Olympics.

Viru's parody account didn't waste a chance to rub salt on De's wounds by remarking thus...

#SakshiMalik ke gale me medal kitna “Sobha De” raha hai na

Now, Friday's match saw India's PV Sindhu who ranks 10th in the world rankings, was pitted against World No.1 Carolina Marin. Millions of Indians were betting big on #SuperSindhu hoping she would bring home a gold medal.

The Hyderabadi shuttler did fulfill their wishes except that she won a silver medal. Her coach P Gopichand remarked: "Sindhu fought really hard."

Sindhu's loss was sure disappointing for millions of us fans. Nevertheless, Indians can now hold their heads high as not all is lost.

The way Sindhu battled the world No.1 was a treat to watch and what she achieved at the Rio Olympics is no mean feat. With her achievement, Sindhu has gone past Saina Nehwal who won bronze four years ago in London.

We certainly must feel proud of Sindhu. After all, one cannot forget the fact that PV Sindhu is the first Indian woman to reach a badminton final at the Olympics.

She surely deserves a standing ovation. Sport lovers can't wait to roll out a red carpet for a woman who sadly got little publicity from the media prior to her Olympics win. Well done Sindhu.
