Hyderabad: Riding on a blazing unbeaten 216 by Harpreet Singh Bhatia, Madhya Pradesh was in complete command of the proceedings in their Ranji Trophy Group ‘A’ match against Uttar Pradesh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS) here on Friday.

Continuing his fine run in the middle, Bhatia added to the bowlers’ agony with his rollicking 274-ball essay that was studded with 25 hits to the fence and five blows soaring over the ropes. Ankit Sharma chipped in with an invaluable 61 on a day when every bowler proved expensive. Madhya Pradesh was eventually bowled out for 465.

Its bowlers picked up the momentum and had the Uttar Pradesh batsmen to the sword. At stumps, they were a pathetic 131 for the loss of five wickets after Gourav Yadav struck early blows with his 3/29 haul. Had it not been for Elavya Dwivedi and his 37 not out, the team would have been staring at disaster.

Brief scores: Day 2: Madhya Pradesh 465 (Harpreet Singh Bhatia 216no, Ankit Sharma 61, Ankit Rajpoot 2/79, Imtiyaz Ahmed 3/58, Piyush Chawla 2/107, Kuldeep Yadav 2/129) vs Uttar Pradesh 131 for five wickets (Elavya Dwivedi 37no, Gourav Yadav 3/29).
