Vijayawada: The India women's team edged past West Indies by 15 runs in the third One-Day International (ODI) to make a clean sweep at the ACA - KDCA stadium in Mulapadu near here on Wednesday. In effect, they took a step nearer to next year’s World Cup.
Batting first, the host made 199 for six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Later, the bowlers did well to restrict and have the opponents shot out for 184 giving India a comprehensive 15-run win. Veda Krishnamurthy top scored with a well-composed 71 from 100 balls. Devika Vaidya and Deepti Sharma contributed 32 and 23 runs respectively. Chedean Nation scalped two wickets conceding 21 runs.
West Indies was poised for a good chase when openers Hayley Matthews and Shaquana Quintyne forged a 49-run partnership before Rajeshwari Shivanand Gayakwad (4/34) along with Deepti Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur and Devika Vaidya combined resources to upset the applecart of the visiting team that was hoping to salvage some prestige. Hayley Matthews was the highest scorer for West Indies with 55 runs while Kycia Knight contributed with 44.
