Skating runs in her blood, quite literally. She belongs to a family of passionately dedicated roller-skaters and is the niece of Hyderabad-based Anup Kumar Yama, who enjoys the distinction of being the first from the sport to be conferred the Arjuna award.

That staggering benchmark comes as an inspiration like no other for Veda Dundigalla, who trains at the Yama Skating Academy that has produced champion skaters at periodical intervals.
The fifth standard student of Gitanjali School in Begumpet has just hogged the national limelight with a remarkable showing in the 54th National Roller Sport Championship that concluded in Noida on Sunday.
Undeterred by the field that boasted of higher age-group contestants, Veda clinched an envious silver in ‘Free Style Artistic Skating’ and capped-off the outing with a magnificent golden effort in ‘Solo dance’ (comprising of compulsory dance and free dance) thereby putting to shade over 20 equally determined competitors from across Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Delhi and Maharashtra.
‘I wish to emulate Anup uncle and win laurels for the State and the country in Asian and World Championships. Being under his tutelage is the best thing to happen to me as he is a proven master, whose exploits have put India on the world roller-skating map,’ exults the starry-eyed December 26, 2006 born young girl, who spends nearly five hours in a day at the rink.
According to Anup, ‘she is a prodigious talent. I see a bright future for her, particularly after she gets to fine-tune her skills while competing in the bigger league. Exposure to the standards abroad, particularly from the peer group, will certainly hold her in good stead.’
Veda, who is right now catching up with her academics for the annual examinations that are round the corner, will begin training soon thereafter as she eyes an exemplary showing in the ensuing Asian Championship.
