Seeds fall by the wayside

Bhimavaram: The ongoing Alluri Ravi Teja National Ranking tennis tournament at Cosmopolitan Club courts continues to throw the seedings into disarray. Close on the heels of two seeded girls being shown the doors in the first round, two more were sent packing by two hugely talented Andhra Pradesh girls. In fact, they created a bigger flutter.

Sahaja Yamalapally was merciless in her 6-0, 6-0 drubbing of third seeded West Bengal player Yubrani Banerjee. Qualifier Humera Shaik was all of grit and determination while outclassing fifth seeded Aarthi Muniyan from Tamil Nadu 4-6,7-6(4),6-1.

Even the boys clashes saw bigger upsets in the first round. Third seeded Delhi player Jatin Dahiya was ousted by his city-mate Gaurang in straight sets. Also falling by the wayside was another Delhi player Anurag Nenwani, seeded eight, who was given the marching orders by Tamil Nadu’s Dhakshineswar Suresh, also in straight sets. Meanwhile, the top seed Karnataka’s Suraj R Prabodh entered the third round with a straight sets win over Jaydeep Chudasama.
