Top sailors for multi-class tourney
With the onset of monsoon, water sports spring to life at Hussainsagar Lake. And this time around, the season gets underway with the conduct of Senior Multi-class Sailing Championships, as part of Hyderabad Sailing Week, here from July 3 to 8, which will see top sailors from across the country trying to conquer the waters and win laurels.
Hyderabad: With the onset of monsoon, water sports spring to life at Hussainsagar Lake. And this time around, the season gets underway with the conduct of Senior Multi-class Sailing Championships, as part of Hyderabad Sailing Week, here from July 3 to 8, which will see top sailors from across the country trying to conquer the waters and win laurels.
Major General Paramjit Singh, VSM, Vice Commodore, EME Sailing Association, told reporters here on Friday that the popularity of the sport was evidenced by the mindboggling entries they received. It has crossed the 200 figure, while it was 195 in the previous edition.
Competitions will be held in Laser Standard, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Finn Class, 470, RSX, Hobie and Enterprise categories. Each of them has attracted the top sailors, including internationals.
“The wind conditions in June and July are favourable to hone ones skills in boat handling and understanding wind shifts. A bigger delight for us is that this time the eco-friendly sport will see the participation of 20 women sailors,” he said,
Governor ESL Narasimhan will inaugurate the event around 2pm at EME Sailing Annexe, Hussainsagar Lake on Monday.
