Kochi: He is disillusioned and furious at the tragic recent turn of events that have virtually put a halt to his grandiose comeback plans. But like the combative bowler he was, S Sreesanth remains a fighter to the core.
He was in a state of shock when the Kerala High Court restored the life-time ban slapped on him by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for alleged match and spot-fixing.
However, given his comeback and never say die spirit the former India pacer has just about unveiled his most potent weapon yet. Rather than wait for luck coming his way and not being the kind to brood over the misfortune, he has hinted at a possibility that may alter cricketing equations in the country.
Sreesanth, speaking on the sidelines of an event in Dubai, expressed his exasperation that may trigger a new wave if taken as a precedent. ‘I feel that I five to six years of cricket left in me. You seem the BCCI has banned me from playing. ICC is silent on it.
That being the case, I might spend the rest of my playing days for another country. Cricket is my passion and nothing can remove that from me,’ declared the pacer, adding that he was free to play for any other country.
On Tuesday, a division bench of the Kerala High Court had restored the life time ban imposed by the BCCI on Sreesanth in connection with the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal.
Sreesanth was caught up in a controversy over betting and spot fixing in the Indian Preemier League (IPL) along with his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ankit Chavan and Ajith Chandila in 2013. He even had to spend time in Delhi's Tihar jail over the issue later that year.
The BCCI Disciplinary Committee headed by present Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had slapped a life ban on Sreesanth. On account of the life ban, the pacer cannot play even league cricket nor get access even for practice to any of the cricket grounds where the BCCI or the state cricket associations have a stake.
A single-judge bench of the Kerala High Court had earlier passed an order that the bowler's life-ban be lifted. The court had also dropped all the charges against Sreesanth after he filed a plea challenging the life ban imposed on him.
