Dubai: Out of the two Indians in contention at the season-ending Dubai World Super Series Finals, Kidambi Srikanth’s journey has ended in the group stage itself. In his second Group B match, Srikanth lost 18-21, 18-21 to World no 7 Tien Chen Chou for his second defeat in as many matches.

Currently placed last in the group, the loss also ended any chance Srikanth had of progressing to the semi-finals of the eight player tournament. Srikanth entered the tournament as the second seed and the highest ranked player in the group.

However, he was playing his first tournament since losing the India Nationals to HS Prannoy on 8 November. Since then, he has been nursing a knee injury which forced him to pull out of the China Open and Hong Kong Open in November. India’s only other player in the tournament now in PV Sindhu who will be seen in action later on Thursday night.
