The quest for the authentic Telugu flavour and gripping human emotions will get reinforced as the 'Gorantha Deepam' finds its dedicated set of TV viewers believes Mullapudi Vara Aruna Ravikumar From soaring into the skies as a commercial pilot to letting your imagination soar into that space and beyond son of popular writer Mullapudi Venkataramana, who is part of the legendary Ramana-Bapu Duo has made a smooth landing. This poet, ad film maker, film director and producer along with director-friend Varanjaneyulu is all set to revolutionise viewing on the small screen with the latest serial "Gorantha Deepam" being aired on a popular Telugu channel. The serial uses the title which is that of a popular film from the Bapu-Ramana stable to portray the trials and tribulations faced by a young girl as she finds her life change suddenly after her marriage under the communal belief called "Bottu Pettadam". "I felt that the title of the movie "Goranta deepam" made by my dad and Bapu garu was also about the difficulties faced by the heroine and her courage in overcoming them and it would also be apt for my heroine oriented serial. I therefore narrated the story to Bapu garu who gave his blessings to the project and designed the logo" says Vara talking about using an already popular title for his work. The serial is also being positioned as an authentic Telugu serial which would stand out among the several dubbed serials. It is a narration which blends traditional values with young aspirations, he feels. An ad film maker who has made close to 100 ads, Vara has worked along with the Bapu Ramana duo for a devotional serial "Sri Venkateshwara Vaibhavam". Talking about his father he says he had a great influence on him. Into writing poetry in earlier days, he has written short stories and several articles and always writes the first version of the script for his films. Many of his ad films have been outsourced to him by his sister who lives in America and works in an advertising agency there. Apart from the Ramana Bapu influence another director who has greatly influenced his work is K Raghavendra Rao. "I worked with two different directors Bapu garu and Raghavendra Rao garu and learnt a lot from them. Their styles are totally different. Bapu garu has a very clear story board and likes steady frames. Raghavendra Rao garu has a spontaneous style and wants a lot of camera movement" says Vara who tasted success with his kannada movie Anandam made under the Usha kiron banner. "Naa Alludu" a film made by him with Jr. NTR as the hero was a flop but Vara was not disheartened and went on to make his second film "Vishakha express" which did moderately well. Presently assisting K Raghavendra Rao on his film "Intinta Annamayya" he is also scripting another film which he plans to direct with newcomers in the lead. "Goranta Deepam" is however a challenging job as the drama has to be sustained and changes incorporated based on the weekly TRP's says Vara. With quite a few serial addicts in his house including his wife, mother and aunt. Vara receives regular inputs that add to the drama which make his serials such a draw. Meanwhile the quest for the authentic Telugu flavour and gripping human emotions will get reinforced as the serial finds its dedicated set of viewers who rarely miss their serial and discuss the characters as they discuss friends.
