Esha Kansara became a popular name on the small screen with her character as Bhabhi in ‘Ek Nanad Ki Khushiyon Ki Chaabi – Meri Bhabhi’ and her earlier serial ‘Mukti Bandhan’ on ‘Colors’. “I was one of the top 100 finalists from India in Dance India Dance season two, before shifting to Mumbai to try my luck in television serials. I am a theatre artiste and my theater director Vipul Mehta, who is also a writer of ‘Mukti Bandhan’ helped me a lot in building contacts and gave the opportunity to work in his serial.

‘Mukti Bandhan’ went off air abruptly and Esha took a break from the small screen for a while. She says, “While shooting for the serial, I was pursuing my college and after the show went off, I went back to college. I started looking for a good role only after I completed my graduation.”

About ‘Ek Nanad Ki Khushiyon Ki Chaabi – Meri Bhabhi’ she says, “We haven’t had any show based on the nanad-bhabhi bond earlier on TV. The serial was ideal for a comeback. Those days are passé when sisters-in-law didn’t bond. Usually there is some bitterness amongst the sisters-in-law in our TV shows, but we are here to break the norm. We show that they can be happy together under the same roof. I related to the character and loved the change. My friend Kanchi Kaul and I blended well on the sets and our real life chemistry did wonders to our performance.”

Esha loves dance more than acting. “Dance is my first love. If I had not been an actor, I would have been a dancer. I really want to dance a lot. But television has always been my priority. I started thinking, practically realised, that it is difficult to get into the dance field then take up television acting. But if I get a chance then I will definitely dance,” said the actor who hails from Ahmedabad.

Are you Kritika (Ek Nanad Ki Khushiyon Ki Chaabi) or Devki (Mukti Bandhan), in real life? “Devki was a strong-headed girl. While Kritika is also strong; she has a very bubbly side too. Both of them come from a well educated background. Devki did not share a good relationship with her husband, while Kritika has a beautiful bond with her life partner; she is well-rooted in tradition and an emotionally understanding person. The only thing that both my roles have in common is that they are positive in attitude. I think I am more like Kritika then Devki,” shares Esha.

She wants to play a strong woman, much like her favourite actors, Sakshi Tanwar and Aruna Irani. Relating her aspirations for her future roles, she states, “I want to act as a bold business woman.” And “If I will get a chance I want to act with Ranbir Kapoor, awwee… he is a great actor,” shares this young actor who obviously has her sights set on the top.
