Carpets can be cleaned at home or sent to specialist cleaners in case of tough stains. The life of an ordinary carpet (not an expensive Persian or Kashmir Carpet which can last several decades or even a lifetime) is roughly 10 years but knowing when to change a carpet is the key.
If you are covering up carpet stains which even professional cleaners cannot remove, with furniture and more rugs it is time to change.
Wear and tear:
You may be able to repair small tears and rips yourself, or you can hire a carpet professional to make the repair. However, large rips and tears mean that the carpet needs to be replaced, especially if these are present on stairs which can be dangerous and cause a fall.
If you have pets or notice a lingering odour on your carpet, you should replace the carpet immediately.
You should get a new carpet for the sake of your health.
Dull and unattractive:
If the colour has faded badly or the carpet is looking much the worse for its wear despite being cleaned several times, change it!
