Delhi-based Anita Tiwary is a visual artist and a spiritual painter, and she recently showcased her works in a solo art exhibition titled ‘Dream Narratives’ at Gallery 78 in Hyderabad. Anita was brought up in the holy city of Varanasi. Its spirituality inspires her until today.

The 59-year-old artist believes that life is a celebration and every breath of ours is an anthem for life. This spiritual thread is to bring peace of mind and purity of soul through supreme union with divine reality, a goal to which all human beings aspire, therefore, serve as a lighthouse, a universe which has a beautiful form or shapes with extremely bright light and ethereal beauty.

Then life can be simply a dance, a continuous celebration. The free-flowing lines on her canvasses represent universal balance as we are all connected emotionally to what is around us. She experiments with space by using layered forms, figures and multiple irregular perspectives. She gets inspiration from dreamy composition and otherworldly landscapes that can be found on earth. She says: “I dream of one world, one family intermingling with each other in peace and harmony.”

Her journey of creativity started due to her father, who spotted her drawings when she was in 3rd standard. Anita says, "My father encouraged my decision of taking admission in Fine Arts in Painting from Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University in 1980 and MA in Art Criticism from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1983. My journey started with a walk within of knowing my own self. My search for the known, unknown and beyond for an eternity reflects in my ‘Soulscapes’, abstract representation and dream narratives."

About her current work titled 'Dream Narratives' she says, "My paintings are the thread of my inner journey of wisdom, creativity and my dreams. These dreams are a stimulating play connecting the spiritual and creative self with clarity and joy. My dreams are like the little dramas in our minds with mystical experiences."

"My process is intuitive as well as spontaneous, weaving together the images, narratives and my personal insights. Sometimes these episodes are events and situations in a time sequence like snapshots of events experienced in life. I focus on these elements of dreams to communicate the tapestry of life. These strands are woven into a narrative form to tell a story in a dreamscape," Anita adds.

About her art inspirations, she says, "Tyeb Mehta, Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi, Ebrahim Alkazi, Tony Cragg, Francis Bacon, Neo Rauch, Frank Philip Stella, etc, inspired me a lot."

One can see her work, 'In Communion 2' acrylic on canvas interesting; about this painting she says, "I have shown people from all walks of life sitting on one tree, one platform to exchange thoughts, emotions and spiritual feelings. This is the communion with nature and God and our fellow beings.

Through this lies the essence of joy and peace which gives spiritual repose, peace, and delight as all things in this universe are seen as patterns of constant transformation working so well, coherently and with such endless individuality. The textures give tonal value, movement and patterns of light and perspective to my painting."

She says, “I want to explore and experiment new things which are unexplored to create powerful visual narratives with fantasy and reality. This new language will transcend people to another state of mind which is bliss, harmony and love. I am passionate about art, not only weaving it, meditating it but also spreading it, appreciating it and learning it."
