Scientists have created nano-sized sulphur particles coated in silica (glass) to be used in Lithium-sulphur batteries. This new technique would enhance the battery life and performance manifold. Lithium-sulphur batteries can produce up to 10 times more energy than conventional batteries. But the main problem with these batteries is bi-products called lithium polysulfides, which dissolve in the battery\'s electrolyte and travel to the opposite electrode permanently.

New York: Scientists have created nano-sized sulphur particles coated in silica (glass) to be used in Lithium-sulphur batteries. This new technique would enhance the battery life and performance manifold. Lithium-sulphur batteries can produce up to 10 times more energy than conventional batteries. But the main problem with these batteries is bi-products called lithium polysulfides, which dissolve in the battery's electrolyte and travel to the opposite electrode permanently. This causes the battery's capacity to decrease over its lifetime. Silica-caged sulphur particles will avert this problem and increase battery life.
