According to the report, the global average connection speed rose 8.6% to 5.6 Mbps from the third quarter, and rose 23% on a year-on-year basis.

The global average peak connection speed rose 1% from the third quarter,32.5 Mbps. In Asia Pacific, South Korea had the highest average connection speed in at 26.7 Mbps, while India had the lowest at 2.8 Mbps.

Similarly, Singapore held the top spot for average peak connection speed at 135.7 Mbps, while India had the lowest average peak connection speed at 21.2 Mbps.

The average page load time for a broadband connection in India was found to be 3.9 seconds and for mobile 6.9 seconds, the report found. Average page load time is the average time it takes a web page to load, from the time a user clicks a link to the page and for it to completely load in the browser.

India has been among the countries with the slowest Internet connection speeds in the past according to Akamai's report. In Q4 of 2015 also, it stood at 115th position in terms of average connection speed.
