New Delhi: For the past two to three years Google is said to be working on a new operating system called Fuchsia. It is anticipated that the new operating system will replace the company's existing Android operating system. It is suggested that the company will replace Android and Chrome operating systems with its new OS. Google plans to introduce one OS which will work across all the devices such as smartphone, laptops, smart speakers and others.
It is also expected that the company will first introduce the new OS to smartphone speakers followed by smartphones. As of now, Google is not revealing any information about the operating system. Though, a new development about the same has surfaced online. Google has hired a former macOS veteran from Apple and with this recruitment the company aims to bring Fuchsia operating system to the market.
Bill Stevenson, an engineer who has worked with Apple for the past 14 years, will now work with Google. He will join in February this year. In a LinkedIn post he mentioned, "I’m excited to share that this February I will be joining Google to help bring a new operating system called Fuchsia to market."
As informed by 9to5Google, Stevenson started working at Apple in 2004 as a product release engineer for OS X. He also played a vital role in the release of every OS from Lion to Mojave. At Apple, he has also worked with third-party developers and other software and hardware teams.
A previous report disclosed that Google will take three more years in order to launch a smart speaker based on Fuchsia and later it would need an additional two years to bring it to smartphones and laptops. The company has already started the process of replacing the Android operating system in the long run. Of late, another report suggested that Android apps would run on Fuchsia as well.
