Google+ consumer accounts to be terminated on April 2

New Delhi: The search engine Google made an announcement last year that it will close down its social network Google+. The firm has now updated the support pages for the same disclosing the last day when Google+ users can post on the service.
Google has disclosed that a consumer version of the service will be discontinued on April 2, 2019. It decided to close down the service after the discovery of a privacy bug which has impacted 52.5 million users.
Earlier the tech giant decided to kill the service in August 2019, but due to the security bug, it decided to terminate it by April 2019.
In an official post, the firm told, "On April 2nd, your Google+ account and any Google+ pages you created will be closed down and we will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts. Photos and videos from Google+ in your Album Archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted. You can download and save your content, just make sure to do so before April. Note that photos and videos backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted."
Google has also disclosed that after February 4, users will no longer be able to create new Google+ profiles, pages, communities of events on the platform. The firm has also created an FAQ page where it has answered all the important queries.
Additional to this, the functionality to post a comment using Google+ on Blogger and other services will be removed by February 4. The already posted comments will be deleted starting April 2.
An important point to note is that G Suite customers will be able to access Google+ after April as well. The Google+ accounts of G Suite users will remain active and the company is also planning to introduce a new design and features for G Suite users in future.
