On Valentine’s Day telecom operator Reliance Jio has posted a ‘poem’ on microblogging website Twitter taking a dig at rivals Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and others, asking the whereabouts of its ‘neighbours’. Sarcastically expressing their absence, the operator wrote ‘Roses are red, Violets are blue, Once a neighbour in SIM slot 2, Where are you? ”

Reliance Jio made an entry in the Indian telecom sector in December the year 2015. The Jio SIM was for purchase in September 2016. The SIM initially worked in 4G enabled SIM slots only which is usually the SIM slot 1 in most of the mobiles. So, when the Jio SIM entered the SIM slot 1, other operator’s SIM was ultimately pushed to SIM slot 2. This is what the company’s latest pun on Twitter makes fun of.

From the time it entered the market the Mukesh Ambani-led company has disrupted the telecom sector with aggressive pricing and benefits like free data, unlimited calling and many more. It is noteworthy to mention that this is not the first time Jio has mocked its competitors on Valentine’s Day.

In the year 2017 also, Jio ‘sarcastically’ wished the then Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Airtel on Twitter. The tweet came after the company registered a complaint with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) against its competitors for not giving sufficient point of interactions.

While Airtel and Vodafone-Idea haven’t replied to it, the social media reacted another way to the latest tweet. Some Jio subscribers praised Reliance Jio for the service, whereas few others took it as an opportunity to vent out their frustration.

In another report, after acquiring over 200 million subscriber base, Reliance Jio is now eyeing the merchant community by entering the point-of-sale (PoS) segment. Merchants and retail provision stores will have to 'deposit' Rs 3,000 to get Reliance's PoS device. Interestingly, for all debit and credit card transactions up to Rs 2,000 in value, the merchant discount rate (MDR) would be zero.
