Hyderabad: The continued heat wave conditions in Andhra Pradesh and parts of Telangana are causing worry for the farmers.Though the South-West Monsoon had struck the Kerala coast on June 6 it has been delayed in Andhra Pradesh because of the hot weather conditions prevailing in the upcountry areas and in different parts of the State. Hot winds are said to be blowing away the rain clouds. Normally the SWM hits Andhra Pradesh, mostly the Rayalaseema region, by June 10. But this year it has been delayed by at least by ten days. This is being attributed by weather experts to the absence of the low pressure area/depression, which of late had been bringing rainfall, sometimes heavy. Weathermen predict that the SWM will strike in the form of thunder clouds in Telangana next week. It is already active in Coastal Andhra and Telangana regions, although heat-wave conditions are also prevailing there at the same time.
Hyderabad: Monsoon Still a Week Away
The state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are worried as the agriculture operations for Kharif season are getting delayed. The fears of weak monsoon could bring in fresh trouble for both the states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Telangana depends on bore wells for irrigation. If there are no rains, the government would be under pressure as the demand for power would shoot up abnormally. In the neighboring Andhra Pradesh which depends on canal irrigation, agriculture operations would suffer as release of water into the canals would be delayed.

According to officials of meteorology department, the Australian weather department's latest forecast suggests that El Nino may develop by September, a little later than the previously expected August. This indicates that the monsoon would be at lower than normal levels.
