Hyderabad: Cars Registered Outside Telangana will Have to Register Again, Telangana and Andhra were one state, they did not have any problem even if their vehicle numbers were AP 16 or AP 31. But now they will have to go in for fresh registration of the vehicles.
- 1.25 lakh motorists to feel the pinch with new registration rules
- These vehicles were originally registered in Seemandhra region
- Owners will forego even their number if they go for re-assignment
- 73 lakh vehicle users registered in Telangana districts just need to change initials without disturbing number
Hyderabad: It is a hard pill to swallow for 1.25 lakh vehicle owners in Telangana State with new motor vehicle registration law coming into effect from Wednesday. While 73 lakh motorists in 10 districts just need to change their State and district codes without disturbing the number, those who had purchased their vehicles in places like Vijayawada or Visakhapatnam but stay in Hyderabad or any of the Telangana districts will have problem as they will not be able to retain the original numbers. The problem will be more for those who had taken fancy numbers.
So far since Telangana and Andhra were one state, they did not have any problem even if their vehicle numbers were AP 16 or AP 31. But now they will have to go in for fresh registration of the vehicles. However, they will not have to pay the life tax again.
Transport department officials elaborated this with a simple example. A vehicle with registration number AP 16 AA 9999 and with Hyderabad address applies for re-assignment, only changing his code to TS-9 (code for the state capital) will pose duplication. Some other vehicle user from Hyderabad will be having the same registration number: TS-9 AA 9999. Therefore, there are no options but to change the code and number.
Motorists make a beeline
Meanwhile, motorists made a beeline to RTA offices in the state capital with TS -- the new registration code for Telangana State coming into effect from Wednesday. A Government Order (GO) pertaining to this issue was issued late on Tuesday evening. Directions were also given not to collect any fee for re-assignment of over 73 lakh vehicles, with old registration numbers, that ought to change to new code in four-month window period.
A vehicle user could get initials changed (at any radium shop outside) but he should pay Rs 200 at a nearby RTA office to get the ‘RTA smart card’ with new registration number. Transport department authorities of each district are already on the job of replacing AP with TS initials and corresponding district code in their database, which will be updated at the earliest.
The new district codes for districts are-TS-1 for Adilabad, TS-2 for Karimnagar, TS-3 for Warangal, TS-4 for Khammam, TS-5 for Nalgonda, TS-6 for Mahabubnagar, TS-7 and 8 for Ranga Reddy district, TS-9 to 14 for Hyderabad, TS-15 for Medak and TS-16 for Nizambad district.
While vehicle owners in Adilabad (TS-1) and Hyderabad (TS-9 to 14) just need to change to TS code, motorists in the rest of the eight districts should change initials as well as the district code.
