Hyderabad: In what can be termed as a paradigm shift in the Railway budget, for the first time the general managers of different zones were asked to provide a list of priority works.
The general manager of South Central Railway (SCR) P K Shrivastava said that it was a practical budget and the SCR got a fair share. With two high speed rail routes and 26 per cent of the new express trains announced in the railway budget-2014, the SCR got a lion’s share of the new express trains. Out of 43 New Express Trains announced for the entire Indian Railways, 11 Express Trains either originate or pass through the SCR system.
Out of nine rail routes, which have been proposed for upgradation to enable running of trains with higher speeds, two routes fall under the jurisdiction of South Central Railway and out of the five premium trains, one originates from SCR. Two out of nine identified routes are Hyderabad-Chennai and Secunderabad-Nagpur.
No mention of creation of a new zone However, contrary to expectations, there was no mention of the creation of a new railway zone for Andhra Pradesh. All that the Railway minister assured was to consider the requirements of railway projects in AP and Telangana after the coordination committee that has been constituted to study the demands submits its report.
MMTS-Phase II to begin soon
The MMTS Phase II work is expected to begin soon. Rs 60 crore has been allotted for the project. The general manager of SCR said that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was keen on taking forward the project and connecting it to the Shamshabad airport. The rail line from Falaknuma to Umdanagar has to be doubled and electrified. Alignment and land acquisition too has to be done.
Sec’bad stn could be one among the 10 stations to be developed to global standards
Though the plans to develop the Secunderabad Railway station into a world class station did not take off, railway officials are hopeful that Secunderabad would be included in the list of 10 stations.
The SCR is also planning to develop additional terminals at Moula Ali and Nagulapalli as the Secunderabad Railway station reached its optimum level. A mechanized laundry will come up at Kacheguda, Shrivastava said.
Rs 5 crore for wagon factory at Kazipet
The proposal for a wagon factory at Kazipet has been in the pipeline for a long time. The total cost of the project is pegged at Rs 150 crore and 125 acres is requirement. Railway officials say that once the state government hands over the land the implementation part would be done at a fast pace.
