Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological Park Digs up Unusual Monkeys. A pair of unusual apes, the Golden Handed Tamarin Monkeys, one-and-a-half-years-old each, made their way to the Nehru Zoological Park.

Hyderabad: A pair of unusual apes, the Golden Handed Tamarin Monkeys, one-and-a-half-years-old each, made their way to the Nehru Zoological Park. The monkeys which have been kept quarantined as of now will be brought into the public display within some 10 days of time, according to zoo sources.

Such a kind of primates is seen in South America, Columbia, Guiana and the Amazon. These apes are omnivorous animals with a lifespan of about 20 years in captivity. They have been gifted to Nehru Zoological Park by the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, added sources.

It is learnt that they weigh about 250 grams and eat fruits, insects or lizards. The female reaches her maturity at three years of age, whereas the male at four. The gestation period lasts for 140 days and the female gives birth only to twins. They mostly live in groups.
