Centre to meet T, AP power officials today
To resolve the ongoing tussle between the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over power, the Union Ministry of Power will hold a crucial meeting with officials of Telangana and AP governments on Monday.

Hyderabad: To resolve the ongoing tussle between the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over power, the Union Ministry of Power will hold a crucial meeting with officials of Telangana and AP governments on Monday. Both the states are at loggerheads after the AP government cancelled unapproved PPAs (Power Purchasing Agreements).
A committee was constituted to study the impact of the cancellation of PPAs on Telangana State. the AP government cited high demand for power as the reason to scrap the agreements.
Union Power Ministry Joint Secretary Jyothi Arora called the officials of the Energy departments of both the states to attend the meeting and put their arguments across at the meeting.
The meeting would be attended by the officials of the Telangana TRANSCO and APGENCO in New Delhi. Sources said that the officials of both States prepared detailed reports to convince the Centre on their respective arguments.
The T Transco officials said that the Telangana would lose 460 MW of power once the PPAs entered by the APGENCO with the power utilities in the undivided State were scrapped.
The AP Reorganisation Act specifically stated that the Telangana was allotted 58 per cent and AP 42 per cent of power based on the utilisation.
The officials were arguing that the cancellation of PPAs was against the spirit of Act approved by the Parliament.
The AP government was demanding allocation of power based on the plants and adoption of a policy of utilisation of power where the plants are located. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's government was strongly opposed to the continuation of the PPAs in the divided State and wanted to enter fresh PPA with the power utilities.
Sources said a report would also be presented to the committee on power crisis being faced by the two states after the bifurcation.
The Telangana government said the power crisis would be aggravated if the PPAs are cancelled.
The AP government is worried that it would face acute power crisis if the PPAs are continued in the coming days.
