Hyderabad: With some 20,000 applications related to loans pending with the APSRTC, the Employees Unions of Telangana are pressing the government for the release of Rs 300 crore related to Credit Cooperative Society (CCS) and other arrears. Even though they served the strike notice to the APSRTC on July 25, the Ministry is yet to react on the pressing issue.

Both the recognised alliance Telangana Mazdoor Union (TMU) and TSRTC Employees Union allege that the funds of society, which amount to Rs 220 crore were being misused by the management.

They feel all the pending financial problems could be only resolved once the government separates both the Telangana and AP units of the RTC. Even though the APSRTC is amongst the listed departments under the 10th Schedule, the employees point out at prioritisation by the government for its division, at the time of bifurcation.

“There is government provision under the Reorganisation Act which supports the division of the RTC. Until it is divided these problems will persist,” said M Thomas Reddy, working president of TMU. According to him, if the management does not pay heed to its demands till July 30, the Union leaders would take up the agitational path. He cautioned that there would be dharnas in all the depots of the RTC from the August 2.

The management has to release Rs 220.53 crore for the account of society. The leaders allege that during last four months, Rs 55 crore per month, has been deducted from the salaries of the employees meant for the society. However the recovered amount was never credited to the account of the society. From this, Rs 80 crore has been allegedly misused. The talks between the higher officials and Union failed to cut ice over the issue of planned strike.

“Thousands of applications are pending with the management, but it puts the onus on the government. We demand the government to at least release Rs 100 crore for Telangana,” demanded K Raji Reddy, general secretary, TSRTC Employees Union.

On Monday, both the Unions represented the issue with the Ministers, who were yet to arrive on a decision. According to leaders, Finance Minister Etela Rajender and Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy failed to give a word on resolving this. They could only say that after discussing the issue with the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao they would arrive at some decision.
