Warangal: The All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) has demanded that the central government bring out a comprehensive legislation to safeguard the rights of agricultural labourers. A resolution in this connection was passed here on Saturday the concluding day of the eighth national conference of the union. The union leaders said for the past four decades workers have been asking for the legislation but sadly it has not taken shape until now.

The rulers and bureaucrats have colluded with the feudal forces in preventing the legislation to come to force. The successive governments at the centre have also failed to follow the suggestions made by International Labour Organisation (ILO) for improving the living standards of agriculture labour. In another resolution the conference has demanded the government to ensure right pay for the work done for agricultural labourers and rural poor. It was alleged that the governments at centre which have been pursuing liberal economic policies and guidelines of International Monetary Fund (IMF) neglecting the demand for decades.

The newly elected BJP government at the centre going further in suppressing the rural poor was trying to amend minimum wages act. The government’s action would also affect the beneficiaries of national employment guarantee scheme.

The AIAWU conference has unequivocally condemned the alleged atrocities by Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal against the Left wing party workers, particularly of CPI(M). The conference has called upon the civil society to strongly condemn the attacks on communists in West Bengal by Trinamool Congress hooligans. Passing a resolution against the atrocities of Israel on Palestine people in Gaza, the conference has expressed serious concern over BJP government’s failure to discuss the issue in the parliament and condemn the attacks.

The conference has strongly condemned the attacks by Israeli military on Gaza civilians and extended solidarity to the victims of the attacks. A resolution passed by United Nations against the attacks should be implanted.
