Hyderabad: The Telangana CID on Friday registered nine cases to probe into the alleged irregularities in the weaker sections housing scheme that was taken up during the Congress regime.

One of the inspectors working in CID Telangana will be nominated as Station House Officer of CID police station. The Telangana government which suspects that Rs 235-crore scam has taken place in the Indiramma Housing Programme in 593 villages after a random survey had ordered the CID to investigate irregularities in the entire State on July 27.

According to Charu Sinha, the Additional DGP of CID, based on complaints from project directors, Housing Department, as many as nine cases have been registered in nine districts. These cases are being investigated by CID Telangana with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) consisting of 22 police officers from CID and 37 police officers from all districts of Telangana.

The TS government claims that social auditing in 593 out of 11,200 villages in Telangana shows that a major scam had taken place.

The government has inputs that some persons had looted cement, steel, material and siphoned off grants under benami names. Though on record it was shown that 36,000 houses were built, they existed only on paper.

At a review on irregularities in construction of houses during 2004-2014, officials had apprised the Chief Minister that there was huge discrepancy in the records that were shown on paper and the ground situation.
