Warangal: The Telangana TDP working president Errabelli Dayakar Rao has demanded the state government to declare Telangana as drought affected.

He said that agrarian crisis was looming large in the state in view of the failure of monsoon, which rendered the standing crops wither away across the state. On Tuesday, the TDP leader has visited several villages in Wardhannapet, Parvathagiri and Rayaparthi mandals in the district.

He interacted with the farmers and listened to their woes during which many of the farmers have complained about the poor supply of power. The lack of power has been proving costly as they were forced to depend on diesel pump sets to pump the water into the fields.

Speaking to press persons, Dayakar Rao has cautioned that the party legislators would highlight the issues of farmers in the ensuing Assembly session. “We will stall the Assembly in order to force the state government to declare the state as drought affected and to initiate immediate measures for supporting farmers,” he said. Each farmer on an average has spent around Rs 10,000 per acre but they were not in a position to get back their investment, leave alone the profit. Adding to their woes, the shortage of power supply has been making their lives even more difficult. Farmers were compelled to spend huge amounts on hiring or purchasing oil engines to draw water from the wells to feed the crops, Dayakar Rao complained.

Burdened with the failure of crops and financial crisis, farmers in large number are committing suicide. Dayakar Rao has demanded the government to immediately ensure eight hours of power supply to crops as it had promised. Soon the TDP leaders would tour the Telangana districts to mobilize farmers to fight against the state government.
