Khammam: CPI district secretary B Hemantha Rao said on Tuesday that the CPI in association with Telangana Rythu Sangham would take up agitations to exert pressure on the State government to solve the problems of farmers.

Members of Telangana Rythu Sangham take part in relay fast

Hemantha Rao inaugurated a one-day relay fast camp organised by the Telangana Rythu Sangham at the Dharna Chowk in front of the Collector’s office here. The agitation was taken up by the Rythu Sangham following the call given by All India Kisan Sabha.

Speaking on the occasion, the CPI district secretary pointed out that during the general elections, the BJP had promised to take up schemes for the welfare of farmers and to provide them financial security. He demanded that the Modi government should fulfill the promises.

Hemantha Rao alleged that the Telangana state government was imposing several conditions and causing inconvenience to farmers on the loan-waiver issue. He alleged that the Modi government at the Centre and the KCR government in the State were adopting policies in favour of the corporate sector and imposing burden on the farmers and the common people.

While the farmers nation-wide were facing problems due to drought conditions, the government failed to provide them the required power supply, seeds and fertilizers. He flayed both the Central and State governments for ignoring the welfare of farmers. No measures were being taken by the elected governments to prevent suicides of farmers, he said.

The CPI leader demanded that a pension of Rs 3,000 per month should be provided to farmers who were above 60-years-old. Minimum support price should be decided for agricultural products based on the recommendations of Dr Swaminathan Committee. The Centre should withdraw its plans to make amendments to Land Acquisition Act-2013 to protect the interests of the corporate sector. Hemantha Rao demanded that the TRS government in the State should implement the loan waiver scheme soon and provide fresh loans to farmers.

A financial assistance of Rs 10,000 should be provided to small and tenant farmers. He also urged the government to provide 3 acres of land to poor Dalit families.

Telangana Rythu Sangham district honorary president A Ramakotaiah, secretary M Veera Hanmantha Rao, leaders Y Sankaraiah, A Latha Devi, P Sudhakar, Kothagudem MPP Banothu Kesli and Chintapalli sarpanch Thota Jagan were among those who took part in the fast.

Rythu Sangham state secretary J Jithender Reddy, CPI district secretariat member D Suresh and Vyavasaya Kaarmika Sangham district secretary T Venkateswara Rao were present.
