Bhadrachalam (Khammam): Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdary has participated in a maha dharna and rasta roko organised at the Bridge Centre here on Thursday demanding the BJP-led NDA government to include four panchayats of Yetapaka, Kannayagudem, Pichukulapadu and Purushothapatnam, which are very close to Bhadrachalam town, in Telangana state.
Former Minister said that it was not appropriate to merge those four panchayats of Bhadrachalam division in successor state of Andhra Pradesh.
She alleged that the BJP government had taken decision to merge seven Polavaram submergence-prone mandals in Andhra Pradesh without considering the opinion of those people.
She demanded the State and Central governments to respond to the issue immediately. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road as rasta roko was organised by the Congress workers for two hours. Renuka Chowdary warned of continuing the agitation till the four panchayats were re-merged with Khammam district. Earlier, she offered tributes to the statue of Ambedkar at Ambedkar Centre in the town.Later, she motivated party workers by dancing along with tribals in their traditional dance.
Former Union Minister Balaram Naik, Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Madhira MLA Bhatti Vikramarka, former MLA Rega Kantha Rao and other party leaders have participated in the dharna.
