TD leader Tummala joins TRS

Vows to make Khammam a model district

Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao assigned senior politician Tummala Nageswara Rao who had quit TDP and joined the pink party on Friday with huge responsibility of co-coordinating with the rank and file so that the TRS can emerge as a force to reckon with in Khammam district in the near future.

Tummala joined the TRS along with large number of supporters on Friday. Telangana Bhavan was packed and the crowd spilled over on to the road.

Those who joined the party along with Tummala are MLC Balasani Lakshminarayana, ZP chairperson G Kavitha, Khammam TDP president K Koteshwar Rao, DCCB chairman M Vijay Babu, DCMS chairman V Anjaiah and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Chandrashekar Rao hoped that Khammam district, under the leadership of Tummala, would progress fast on all fronts. KCR said that people of Khammam nursed a grudge against him that he had not been visiting the district often. But he said from now onwards he would visit Khammam district and would monitor the implementation of various developmental activities.

Tummala asked KCR to see that the plan to set up a big steel plant in Bayyaram, in collaboration with SAIL, was speeded up so that it could help in employment generation in the district.

He was also highly critical of the NDA government for disturbing the geography of Khammam district.

He said that people of Khammam were not against better utilisation of Godavari water but they opposed destruction of tribal lives in Khammam.

He exuded confidence that Khammam district, with the support of Chief Minister, would become a model district in the newly formed Telangana State.
