Old Traffic Signal Poles in Hyderabad to go; New Ones by Month-End. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner, Somesh Kumar directed the officials to dismantle old traffic signal poles by September 30.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner, Somesh Kumar directed the officials to dismantle old traffic signal poles by September 30. He was speaking at a review meeting with regard to Hyderabad Traffic Integrated Management Systems (HTRIMS) project and enquired about the progress of the project which is being executed by M/s. BEL, (Bharat Electronics Limited), Bangalore.

Under the project, 221 traffic signals are being installed in GHMC limits, 157 in Hyderabad and 64 in Cyberabad limits. The project cost is Rs 63.61 cr. A total of 151 traffic signals have been installed in Hyderabad and six are pending. With regard to Cyberabad, all the 64 traffic signals have been installed and syncronisation is to be completed.

In case of six traffic signals, the places have been changed, duly replacing areas which include Adikmet Junction, Air Force Gate (Cantonment area), Balika Bhavan, Ramchandrapuram (BHEL Junction), Patancheru Junction and City College junction.

The Commissioner said Variable Message Signage (VMS) boards numbering 17 have been completed, out of 221 identified junctions, 215 cameras have been installed and timers have been fixed at 17 junctions out of 221. An inspection of the 17 junctions where the timers were fixed would be done by concerned authorities.

He further directed to put animations on VMS along with the GHMC and Traffic Police logos. The Commissioner instructed M/s. BEL Authorities to fix all the timers in all the 221 junctions within six weeks as the work is already delayed.

For the Traffic Command Centre (TCC) to get fully functional, a team from BEL would complete the pending works by September 15 that includes rectification and update of software.

Jithender, IPS, Addl. Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Ahmed Babu, IAS, Special Commissioner, GHMC and M/s BEL project and project manager took part in the meeting.
