Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLAs were arrested by Medchal police on Friday for violation of the election Code of Conduct. Parkal MLA Ch Dharma Reddy and L Vijayavardhan Reddy were arrested on Friday for allegedly trying to influence the voters of Gajwel Assembly Constituency by distributing cash, thus violating the Code of Conduct.

Acting on a tip-off, a team under the supervision of Medchal inspector M Prabhakar Reddy conducted a raid on Honey Berg resort at Yadaram Village in Medchal area and seized Rs 24.1 lakh cash, some printed model ballot papers in favour of BJP candidate Jagga Reddy and TDP scarves from an Innova vehicle (AP 23 N 6699). The police also seized voter lists of Gajwel constituency from room no 101 of the resort where Dharma Reddy was camping for the past two days.

“We arrested the driver Sama Naresh Reddy, 22, of Nagole, who confessed that they were camping in the resort since two days and on Friday, Vijayavardharn Reddy brought the money and discussed the same with Dharma Reddy for distributing the amount to voters in Gajwel for casting their votes in favour of their ally BJP candidate, Jagga Reddy,” Prabhakar Reddy said, adding that it was a gross violation of election Code of Conduct.

The accused will be produced before the court along with the seized cash and other material. “Search teams were pressed into service to nab the remaining accused,” the cops said.
