Hyderabad: Telangana State government has requested neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to ensure that water would not get impounded into Pulichintala project which would lead to submergence of several villages in Nalgonda district.

Telangana Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma wrote to his counterpart I Y R Krishna Rao on Tuesday and pointed out that part of submergence under the reservoir was in Nalgonda district of Telangana while the other part in Guntur district of AP State.

Rajiv Sharma requested AP CS to direct the concerned staff of Pulichintala not to impound water without completing rehabilitation and resettlement work in the district of Nalgonda.

In an identical letter to Union government, the Chief Secretary requested Alok Rawat, Secretary, Water Resources, Government of India to direct AP not to go ahead with impounding of water.

Meanwhile, Telangana State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao spoke to Aditya Nath Das, Secretary Irrigation, AP to resolve the issue. He also demanded AP to release compensation to affected people of submerged villages.
