Karimnagar: The police are reportedly strengthening the counter-intelligence wing in the district following some recent reports that ultras belonging to a newly formed outfit have established their sleeper cells.

The counter-intelligence wing was established 10 years ago in the district at different places including Jagtial, Godavarikhani, Huzurabad, Metpally, Korutla and Sircilla to track the movements of persons working for terror groups. The duty of the staff deployed in counter-intelligence is to pass on information to the State police on the movements of the sleeper cells. However, as they were also being burdened with other duties, they were unable to fully concentrate on the job assigned to them.

Following the recent arrest of four infiltrators from Bangladesh and based on the information revealed by them during interrogation, a new terrorist outfit ‘Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)’ was reportedly luring unemployed youth in Karimnagar district and recruiting them as its sleeper cells. It was reported that it has so far recruited 20 youths as sleeper cells in the district.

The objective of ISIS is to establish Islamic Raj and expand it. In the wake of the revelations by the infiltrators, the district police have resolved to strengthen the counter-intelligence wing. Personnel of the counter-intelligence have begun to focus on their work after thoroughly studying the earlier incidents related to movement of ultras in the district.
