Hyderabad: Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the sitting-in MP of Nizamabad, who is leading the Bathukamma jatara, added floristic flagrance to the coal hub Kothagudem, on Thursday. Women with decorated Bathukammas gathered together to celebrate the fete.

While addressing the media on this occasion, Kavitha said that her mother was angry with her for not celebrating the fete their home to take part in Bathukamma festival, despite the fact she has time to visit places to participate in Bathukamma. She said that in reply to her mother she has held each house in Telangana as her own.
Kavitha, earlier offered prayers at Peddamma a temple and took part in special rituals held in connection with the nine-day Bathukamma festivities. She, along with other women, prepared Batukammas with a variety of colourful flowers and played kolatam with the women. She played Bathukamma with private college students
Kottagudem, the coal town came alive with tribal women, dressed in traditional apparel and carrying the conical Bathukammas, added sources.
